Joel Pierson is a composer, arranger, and jazz pianist.


Joel has played with many of today’s leading jazz greats including Lenny Pickett, Chris Potter, John Scofield,and Kenny Werner, as well as pop legends such as, Tommy Tune, Clint Holmes, Frankie Avalon, and Wayne Newton.


As a songwriter, Joel was signed to Warner Brothers Records as a recording artist with the rock group The Rosewood Fall.


Joel has lived off and on in  New York and has a Master’s Degree in jazz piano performance from New York University, where he has performed at venues such as The Iridium and The Blue Note.  He is currently finishing a doctorate in music composition at the University of Maryland.


Joel is now musical director for New York-based vocalist Tara Khaler, and has traveled to over seventy-five countries.  His compositions are performed regularly, and he was recently interviewed for magazine McSweeney’s “People With Unusual Jobs” column.
